Well, I've been a week and a day back to school, and I seem to be inspired to draw and paint superhero pictures. Apart from the pictures already here in my gallery, I'm working on a Hulk sketch (trying to get the hands right) which I haven't decided if I will color; a new picture of Power Girl which is basically laid-out in pencil, but still needs some corrections and adjustments (probably I'll upload it as a WIP); I would also like to keep the Supergirl mood on with a picture of Linda Danvers; and I really want to make a Ninjette pic some time soon. Time will tell.
On other notes...
As a school project for my painting class, I had planned to do a series of girl's portraits in comic book style (both drawing and coloring, but not necessarily in the Lichtenstein vein, but after --finally!!!-- reading Adam Warren's Empowered Vol. 5, I thought I could take and idea from those books for a series of paintings. They would still be comic book style portraits, but the theme would become "Superheroes Most Deserving of Wider Recognition". I've been thinking about doing some research to find superheroes that are really cool but not much known, but I guess that could lead to some copyright issues if those paintings were to be exhibited, so maybe the best option would be to invent some superheroes and paint them. Some inspiration for that came from the Watchmen movie opening credits, where we can see Andy Warhol exhibiting superhero-inspired Pop Art.
However, a friend asked me if I would only make superhero pictures this semester, in a very skeptical tone, and that sort of leaves me wondering if I should be exploring other themes. Then again, I don't think people in general consider superheroes a serious theme for a "Fine Art" class. I do believe it can be, but I don't know if I'll get the green light to go on with it. It wouldn't be the first time my work is questioned because of the subject: My dad pressured me to be original instead of working on someone else's characters, but the thing is I ENJOY working on those characters, trying to put a bit of myself into them. After all, I would like to work on mainstream comics one day, even if I don't think I'm ready yet.
On the other hand, I feel kinda frustrated 'cause I have no idea what to do for my etching class. I've got the materials, I've got the time, but strangely I feel my creativity is flowing towards painting --which is the opposite to what happened last year.
Hey, but don't get me wrong! I'm actually really happy to be back in school after a long summer.
Hm... I don't know if this is even readable... or if anyone actually cares. Anyway, if someone does, comments are welcome.
